Active School Travel - We're In!

21/03/2016

This year Holland Park State School has been selected as one of 18 new schools joining Brisbane City Council’s Active School Travel program.

This program promotes clean and green, active and healthy school travel modes such as walking, cycling, carpooling and public transport.  By leaving your car at home, at least one day a week on our active travel day, we can reduce traffic congestion at the school gate, improve road safety, create a cleaner environment, save money and improve our health and fitness!

Students, teachers and parents will learn about ways to actively travel to school at our school assemblies and in the classreoom.  Walk, ‘drop & stride,’ cycle, scoot, carpooling or even catch the bus to be an AST supporter!  Students will also learn about some of the great rewards they can earn as they get stamps on their Active Travel Passports when they enter the school grounds as an AST supporter.

Keep an eye out for Brisbane City Council’s Active School Travel mascot Roadstar and AST characters who will make appearances at school assemblies and themed events in support of the program throughout the year.

The program will be launched at HPSS on Wednesday 13th April with Active School Travel days taking place every Wednesday during Term 2.  Of course, students are encouraged to actively travel to school on other days of the week as well!  More information can be found on the Brisbane City Council website.

Use the holidays to practice your chosen Active School Travel method!
