Philosophy is an academic discipline that has been around for thousands of years. It brings to mind people such as Socrates, Plato and Aristole. The term ‘philosophy’ was coined by the ancient Greeks. The first part of the word ‘philos’, means ‘love of’ and the latter part of the word comes from ‘sophia’ meaning ‘wisdom’. Thus philosophy means ‘love of wisdom’. Wisdom involves the ability to go to the core of things and recognise what is really significant, which then raises questions about much that we take for granted.

At Holland Park State School Philosophy is taught from prep to year six in all classes. All staff have being trained in level one Philosophy and Philosophy is aligned to the creative and critical thinking cross curriculum focus in ACARA, the national curriculum.

Defining 'gifted' and 'talented

Gifted students are those whose potential is distinctly above average in one or more of the following domains of human ability:

       Intellectual, creative, social and physical.

Giftedness designates the possession and use of outstanding natural abilities, called aptitudes, in at least one ability domain, to a degree that places an individual at least among the top 10%of age peers in the school.
